TCS Keep-Alive® (KA) devices are used to supply power to decoders during times of power interruption due to dirty track or problematic track work. The KA-N1 can power an N-scale locomotive for 1-2 seconds over dirty track and power interruptions (depending on the number of lights and efficiency of the motor).

This Keep Alive® has been specifically designed to be as physically small as possible. This product uses a slightly lower voltage and has a lower capacity compared to our larger Keep Alive products such as the KA1, KA4, etc., and is intended to be used with N-scale decoders, such as the K7D4 and more!

Keep Alive® Decoder Compatibility With TCS Decoders

TCS Keep Alive® (KA) devices are designed to operate with all TCS (or any other Keep Alive® ready) decoders. Decoders with a corresponding socket can be used with the KA4-P. This will be detailed in the decoder literature if the decoder has the socket.

!!!WARNING!!! Decoders with a “-KAC” suffix have a non-polarized 2-Pin Connector for attaching the KA(x)-C. The KA4-P is NOT compatible with this style of plug-in Keep Alive® interface.

Keep Alive® Decoder Compatibility With Non-TCS Decoders

If you would like to attach a Keep Alive® unit to a non-TCS decoder, you need to connect the wires across the output of the bridge rectifier on the decoder. You will need to consult your decoder manufacturer for a schematic or wiring diagram.

Installation Notes for TCS Decoders

1. Refer to your decoder litarature for compatibility information with the polarized 2-pin plug interface.

2. Plug the Keep Alive® wires into the socket decoder (The plug interface is polarized and designed to only be plugged together one way).

3. That’s it! Your locomotive is ready to run over the most treacherous of tracks.

Follow the instructions on the website before returning any decoders to TCS.
